Final Week of Term 1

Kia ora Koutou,

I don't know about your children but I was pooped after our Friday night sleepover! It was awesome spending the night with rooms 22 and 23 even though sleep was minimal. We squished into the staffroom snuggly and enjoyed an evening of sports, swimming, movies, eating, chatting and then after our few hours of sleep did a nice morning run, fitness and then 6:30am swim in the school pool. There were a heap of standout children who were super helpful and caring toward their peers. Miss Gee and I look forward to celebrating these leaders during assembly. Thank you all for your home baking, snacks and money for your childrens pizza, ice blocks and drinks..we had a cool night. Many thanks to Matua Walter, Koka Sam, Koka Kat and Koka Sharyne for spending the evening with us too.

6:30am morning swim while the sun rose...tino ataahua!

Just like at the movies...only better with friends

Congratulations to Genna Robertson and Deno Starkey who received our classroom certificates at Friday's assembly.

Genna is a real go getter! She excels at Kayaking and is a very hard worker. She completes her tasks diligently in class and she always goes the extra mile. She is a pleasure to have in 22@Gisint.

Deno is an awesome chap who has stepped up his game and earned his first Mathletics certificate on Friday. Deno is a very kind and caring person who is well liked by the students in our class. He loves ICT work and always has a huge smile on his face.

                       Monday's Learning Conference Times

I will have some chairs set up outside our classroom incase you arrive early. We have to keep to the 20 minute booking allocation otherwise other families get held up. During the conference your child will share some of their work pieces, their goals for the rest of the year and we can talk about anything you wish to know about their learning. See you all with Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Finally, our country celebration day is now on Tuesday due to the Hip Hop trials being held on Monday in the middle block. We also have school photos on Tuesday and syndicate green card time at the YMCA on Tuesday afternoon.

We have our Te Unga Mai walk with Koka Kat on Wednesday to the beach and around to the courthouse. We were meant to do this during our activity week but the weather did not allow this to happen.

On Thursday morning we will also be walking to and from the Museum for our Bob Marley and War exhibition lessons. Children will need a packed morning tea, drink and lunch on these days. If you are able to transport in the event of bad weather could you please let me know.

Congratulations to Grace Roddick who completed this stunning piece of Art during her tech session with Mr Notting.

Optional Homework is due this Wednesday and Country projects are due on Tuesday. I will be setting the children a mini holiday task to do with our family members who fought in the war.
Our school is having a very special ANZAC service at school on Thursday the 23rd April to mark the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli landing.
I would love for your children to start some research on their family members during the holidays who fought in the war (WW1, WW2, Vietnam etc or who are in the armed services today).
If you have photo's or mementos of these loved ones then it would be very nice if your child were able to bring these to school on Thursday the 23rd April for the service.
I will be bringing along a photo of my Pāpā Mataiata Pohatu who was in the 28th Māori Battalion. More info regarding this service will be in the school newsletter.
Our class will be doing a more in depth study about the ANZACS and the war next term too so our museum visit this Thursday will be a good lead in.

Ngā mihi - Ana
