Kia ora all,
We are all looking forward to our haerenga (journey) to Omaio on Tuesday but we have a whole lot of other exciting activities planned for the week after we return.
On Monday the 16th at 8:40am we will be walking to Shed 3 where the children will experience 2 hours at Gisborne's amazing 'Mindlab'. Check out more about the Mindlab. The cost for this experience is $2 per person but the learning that the children will get out of it will be well worth the cost. If the children enjoy the experience we will look at booking further visits throughout the year. I will be completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Practice with the Mindlab this year so am excited about sharing this knowledge with the class.
After we have finished our two hour session at the Mindlab we will be walking to Tairawhiti Museum where the children will be doing two lessons on the Bob Marley exhibition and the Maori Battalion Exhibition. We have been using Bob Marley's lyrics as a part of our reading programme this week and will be doing a whole school war unit toward the end of term 1 and the start of term 2 to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli. These exhibitions fit perfectly into what we are learning. Your children will need a packed morning tea and lunch on Monday the 16th and we will return to school by 3pm. If you wish to join us please feel free to come along.
On Wednesday the 18th March, Koka Kat will be taking us for a historical walk along the waterfront from Midway Beach to The Gisborne Courthouse as a part of a lesson on Te Unga Mai - The Arrival. We will look at the history of our beautiful home and learn what was here many years ago. The children will also need a packed lunch and morning tea on this day. Permission forms will go home on Monday before camp.
Finally, congratulations to Jayda Pellow who was this weeks Turanganui Legend of the week. Jayda is a pleasure to have in class and has settled into Gisborne Intermediate with ease. She is an enthusiastic learner, kind and helpful and just an all round awesome person. Ka wani ke Jayda!
