I hope you've all enjoyed the long weekend. I attended the ANZAC Dawn service with my family on Friday and it was another beautiful service. Many thanks to those of you who were able to pop into school for our service last Thursday. It was a lovely occasion and I am so pleased that we spent last week focusing on Anzac Day. Thank you to everyone who supported their child with their whanau research in the holidays. I enjoyed reading the childrens projects as well as seeing the pride they showed when sharing their precious medals, letters, money, photographs and stories.
Tomorrow in our syndicate assembly we will be celebrating a number of students for their optional homework tasks last term, their country projects and overall attitude and effort. I am impressed everyday by the work ethic of our 22'ers. This week we begin our speeches, science fair projects, narratives, fractions, decimals and percentages, Focused Friday lessons (Japanese with Mrs Williams & Ultimate with Mr Barclay), Extension Activities on Friday and we have tech tomorrow afternoon. There are so many opportunities available so don't forget to check these out for yourself via our daily notices. ALL children have 24 hour access to these notices and it is their responsibility to ensure they sign up for the things they want and that they make all meetings and practises. This is a big part of self management @Gisint.
A reminder that we will be returning to the Mindlab on Tuesday the 12th May from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Could you please email me if you are able to help with transportation to and from the Mindlab. The cost for this trip is $2 which is incredibly cheap as it usually costs $95 a day or $375 a week to attend the sessions in the holidays. If you would prefer for your child to remain at school then please email me so that I can arrange supervision in another room. I will send a permission form for this visit as well as our visits in terms 3 and 4 home this week.
22@Gisint Homework for Term 2
As we have so many projects and class tasks happening this term, I would like the children to focus on them rather than the optional booklet tasks that we did last term. I will introduce another set of these optional tasks in term 3. The children should be working on the following things at home each week.
- Dragon Maths and Mathletics - Fractions, Decimals, Percentages and Basic Facts (x, /, +, -)
- Spelling - 10 list words
- Speeches - practising (We are writing these in class to tie in with our persuasive writing)
- Soup Bones Narratives - Picture Books based on people we know.
- Movie Making & Animation based on our Picture Books.
- Science Fair - continuing what we are doing in class at home.
- Reading - Current Affairs, Library Books..all reading is great reading.
- Train for our winter sports.
- Completing unfinished Classwork
- Working on our Blogs
- Biography Project - Influential Person - later in the term.
- Searching for and trialling new ICT tools to inspire us and to use in our work
- Complete tech and extension group requirements (NCEA Reo, Music Title Pages, Art Workbooks)
Check out this handmade Monopoly Game created by Kaitlyn Reed as a part of her optional term 1 homework tasks. Kaitlyn hand carved board game pieces too. Well done Kaitlyn!!
Finally, we have a large number of students to celebrate for making various teams or achieving different things but I don't want to miss anyone out today. I will confirm these with the students tomorrow and then place them in our blog throughout the week. 22@Gisint is full of amazing kids!
Kia pai to koutou wiki - Have a great week
