Last week we had another fantastic trip to the Mindlab where the children had to collaboratively design a robot to help humans. As they made their creation they had to record the process using stop animation. We used a programme called 'Monkey Jam' and at the end of the session each group presented their finished product to the class. Many thanks to all of our awesome parents who transported us to and from the Mindlab. Our next class visit is the fourth Tuesday of Term 3.
Josiah, Jacob and Alex working out what to do next with their friendly robot whose job was to cheer people up.

Aaliyah, Soph, Jayda, Bo and Flynn..A pretty on to it team who got their concept sorted quickly and had a lot of fun whilst doing it.

Last Wednesday we also made 'Balloon Racers' and used stop animation to record the design process. Unfortunately the internet was not very flash that day so only a couple of groups managed to record their work successfully. We will be racing our finished crafts this week against Mrs Joll and Room 24.
We will be doing a few more science experiments this week in class too as well as starting to write our Soupbones Picture Books.

Congratulations to all of our girls who represented Gisint at the Gym Festival. There were some excellent results and some neat pictures are available on the Gisborne Herald website. I will add a photo of the girls tomorrow along with some of our other 22'ers who have recently made representative teams.
On Tuesday evening from 6pm to 7pm we will be having a whanau maths evening to share ideas of how to support your child at home with Maths. The evening will be a fun, hands on event. Everyone is most welcome but our main focus group is those students who are not currently working at the national standard. Each syndicate will host their families in the following rooms from 6pm to 7pm. Drinks and light refreshments will be served and the library will be open for younger children to be supervised. We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

SPEECHES
In class this week we will continue to work on our persuasive speeches which will need to be ready by the start of week 8. Here are some tips if you would like to help your child at home.
1: Include a catchy hook - this could be a quote, a short song snippet, some kid of movement. Whatever it is, it should grab the listener's attention.
2: Contain at least 3 detailed ideas to support your argument.
3: Personal experience or research to back up what you are saying,
4: A strong conclusion that leaves the listener with no confusion as to what you were saying.
5: The speech should be around 3 minutes long.
6: Choose a topic that you are extremely passionate about - Your passion and knowledge about the subject should shine through and it will make it easier to speak about it.
Last Thursday Mrs Hannah let us all know that our science fair projects are now due in the middle of term 3 which gives us a few more weeks. We are doing a number of experiments in class to help the children with the process. The most important part of the science fair process is the research that goes behind the experiment. Last week a school info booklet was given to the students to assist them with their projects. Like any project it is important that the children select something that they are really interested in. I have some experiment books in class and there is a display in the library with ideas too.
Finally, many thanks to all of the children who are emailing through their times table grids and reading logs daily. These two activities should be priority for homework this term as well as working in your Dragon Maths books and Mathletics accounts. If you do not have internet access at home then the children are most welcome to jump on their Mathletics accounts before school and during the lunch hour. Thank you for encouraging them with this at home. The students who are regularly practising are noticing huge improvements in class.
Have a great week everyone.
Ana
