Final Week of Term 2

Kia ora koutou,

I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend. I spent the majority of mine completing another Mindlab assignment which is why our blog update is later than usual.

First of all congratulations to Emily Horne who received the student of the week award last Friday at assembly. Emily is a true Gisint gem who is held in high regard by everyone who comes into contact with her. She is a diligent worker who quietly goes about her business, never letting her standards drop. She sees the bigger picture all of the time and is an outstanding role model for her peers to follow. Emily is incredibly kind, thoughtful, selfless, always putting others ahead of herself and is always there to lend a helping hand. She is a great listener who treats everyone with respect. Emily is a member of extension cooking, extension music, the orchestra, the year 7 girls hockey team and she is speaking tomorrow night in the year 7 girls speech finals. Emily is pictured with Hayley Templer who was also the recipient of the student of the week award.

Congratulations to Rigante Keelan and Jacob Priest who received our class certificates at assembly last Friday. Rigante is an awesome student who is completing NCEA Level 1 in Te Reo Maori this year, he was the kaikorero (Speaker) at the Whakatane exchange powhiri and he is an all round lovely person. Jacob is also a super cool kid who has been completing some great work in class with his picture book, reading mapping task and speech. He too has a heart of gold and we love having both boys in our room. Tau Ke Korua!

On Tuesday we have Jasmyn Broughton, Emily Horne and Bo Howarth-Jarratt in the year 7 girls speech finals to be held in our school hall so if you are available please come along and support our ladies. We are so proud of our girls and it is bound to be an entertaining evening. Our class also has tech on Tuesday so all students will need to remember their gear. There is also a second action week meeting scheduled for all students during the lunch hour. If your child is travelling out of town you should expect another newsletter.

On Wednesday we have some lovely little people coming into our classroom to listen to our picture books. Many thanks to Viv Robertson and the team at TopKids - we look forward to seeing you in the first block and sharing our stories and audio books with you.

On Thursday there is a mufti day to support our Turanga Tangata Rite students who are travelling to the nationals in Palmerston North in November so students will need to bring along $2. We have Jade Vercoe in TTR and Papa Pura and Koka T are the awesome tutors who do so much for our school. Thank you in advance for your support.

In the evening the Arts Evening is going to be held at the newly renovated War Memorial Theatre from 6pm. We have Jayda, Emily, Bo, Giorgia, Jasmyn, Grace and Alessandra all involved in this evening through the extension music, cooking and JRock groups. It will be an awesome night of entertainment so I encourage you all to come along.

Friday will be the final day for term 2 and we have kapa haka, Focused Friday (Social science with Mr Fourie and Badminton with Mrs Hunt) and assembly. Thank you all so much for another awesome term - we are almost halfway through the year and the kids in 22@Gisint are just gorgeous. I couldn't have asked for a cooler bunch!

Finally, next term we are having a class fundraiser for Oliver to help he and his Mum Rachel with their expenses to get Oliver to the states for his summer camp. If you are able to bake or donate goods for us to sell on Wednesday the 22nd July we would be most appreciative. We have also organised to pre sell Cinnamon doughnuts from the Donut Caravan for $2. We raise $1 from every donut sold so if you would like to pre order one or two for your child the money can come into school from tomorrow. The donuts will be distributed on the 22nd July. Many thanks to Jo Hoyt from the Donut caravan for supporting our fundraiser for Oliver.

Have a wonderful week everyone!
Ana
