No doubt you're all snuggled inside on this chilly winter day celebrating an awesome All Black win last night.
Well done to Grace, Jasmyn and Jade who had their Letter to the Editor that we completed in class published in Saturday night's paper.
Congratulations to Alessandra Evans who was our third student of the week recipient. Alessandra is a gorgeous young lady who displays so many genuine leadership traits. She is loyal, empathetic and incredibly kind natured always placing others needs before her own. She is thoroughly organised, honorable and has integrity in abundance. You can read a full write up of why Alessandra was our 3rd recipient in this weeks school newsletter. Congratulations also to the lovely Georgia Richardson from room 16 who shared this weeks award with Alessandra. Tau ke korua - Awesome you two! Well done also to Rigante Keelan, Rosie Hellesoe and Jade Vercoe who also received our classroom certificates for their all round awesomeness. Ka mau te wehi koutou - Well done all of you!
Well done to all of the awesome 22'ers who brought their completed science fair projects into school last Friday. I will be giving the students feedback tomorrow and they will be displayed in the hall this week to enjoy. I will also take some pics of the different projects from our class and share on here. There are a few students who are still putting the finishing touches on their projects which is fine and once they are completed they will go into the hall too. Our class will be viewing the projects on Tuesday straight after interval.
Year 7 Physical Education Extension Term 3
Last week our class went through the collaborative process of identifying 8 students who will work with Mr Hart over three sessions from September 1st to 3rd for a block each day.
The purpose of these sessions is to allow an opportunity for students to collaborate and work with others from across the school in a planned physical education experience. European Handball will be the focus for this experience.
Our class began this process by looking at the Gisint skilled games player rubric and each student in our class identified the boys and girls who they felt best met this criteria. I then sent them a Google Form each and they entered their selections. As a result the following students will be taking part in this opportunity.
Flynn Cave, Rigante Keelan, Kalais Piahana-Harrison, Jasmyn Broughton, Alessandra Evans, Emily Horne, Bo Howarth-Jarratt and Jayda Pellow.
Giorgia Hart and Mayer-Francis Smith were nominated by their peers to take part but due to other commitments chose to gift their spots to two of their classmates.
Monday
Science Fair Projects to be taken over to the hall - those who are not quite finished will get these done in class (Flynn and Mayer to keep working with Mrs Devery this week)

Lunchtime Zumba last Wednesday with Elena Ogle - This week we will be out on our deck area - All welcome (parents too)
Thanks heaps to our awesome RTLB's (Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour) Mrs Rice and Mrs Arnold for taking Rosie and Leah out for a special treat last Friday for the work the girls have been doing with them.
Last week we were very fortunate to have Ex All Black and Dancing with the Stars Champion Mr Norm Hewitt come in to deliver a presentation to the children about the SPCA and taking care of each other. We had an in depth discussion on what the children learnt from this and it was evident that they had taken many key messages which they recorded on their blogs.
We have also been focusing on blog etiquette in class and the importance of constructive feedback. As a part of our silent reading routine after lunch the children read each others blog pages and are expected to leave some feedback - a positive about what they have read and some feed forward - perhaps a further question or suggestion for the author. Many of the class are updating their writing daily which is awesome and at the end of the year these documents will be an awesome journal of the years events. I am constantly talking to the children about the need to be aware that their blogs are in a public forum therefore as the author they must be focused on showcasing their best work.
We had a number of our class trial for the Year 7 Ki o Rahi trials last week which was awesome. A second trial will be held next week and any year 7 who missed out can still trial. I am constantly impressed with the go getter attitudes of all of our class and fingers crossed we have some students who make the squad. We also had another awesome session of rollerskating club on Friday.
Finally, many thanks to my gorgeous class who put together this mini clip for our American friends Katie and Jamie whose son Adam has just started school in Cincinnati and his whole year level are doing a study on Oceania. My brother in law met Katie and Jamie when he was working at a US Summer Camp many years ago and then they came to NZ twice and stayed with my mother and father in law out at Whangara. They absolutely love NZ and are massive All Black fans so when they asked me to send Adam something from NZ for him to take for show and tell I thought who better to show him what was cool about NZ than the incredible 22'ers. We now have a lot of 6 year old fans on the other side of the world - Katie messaged me this morning to say they were thrilled and it had brought back many great memories of their time spent in NZ. The power of technology these days means that we are never really that far away from each other and this provides another authentic learning experience for our kids and theirs. Another job well done Room 22 kids!
